Dr. Osteen

Dr. Osteen, MICRONAIL Distal Radius Fixation Recipient

drosteen1Dr. Osteen fractured his right wrist in February 2006 during a skiing trip in Vail, Colorado with some friends leaving him with a painful, unstable wrist.

Dr. Osteen is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon, so having full hand and wrist function is incredibly critical in order for him to perform surgery. Not to mention, he is also an avid tennis player, biker and runner. It quickly became apparent this injury would not go away on its own and he was not going to regain full function without surgical intervention.

drosteen2He went to see his friend and colleague Dr. Mark Warburton who, in collaboration with Wright, had co-invented the MICRONAIL Distal Radius Fixation Implant.

drosteen3Dr. Osteen was implanted with the MICRONAIL implant on May 15, 2006 and he took off a week from work. Nine days after his own surgery, he was back in the operating room again.

drosteen4Today, Dr. Osteen is doing fine and he finds it really a nice coincidence that he can share his own surgical experience regarding the MICRONAIL implant with his own patients that he treats for wrist fractures. According to Dr. Osteen, “Now that I am approaching 5 months out from surgery, I have returned to normal function including weight lifting and tennis without symptoms. I was able to start strengthening my arm at a very early stage (3-4 weeks). Because of this I feel my recovery has been accelerated and more complete than otherwise would have occurred with less stable and more invasive techniques.”

“Based on my experience as a patient, when I’m prescribing the MICRONAIL implant to my patients, I know with confidence that they are getting the best treatment available for wrist fractures.”
